Production: 285 dozen.
Colour: Straw gold.
Aroma: Quintessential Chenin showing plenty of apple, pear note and some complex flint characters.
Palate: Crisp and crunchy like a freshly picked pink lady apple. Tropical notes of pineapple and pawpaw come through with delicious textural weight. Bright acidity gives line and length to this classic Margaret River Chenin Blanc.
Winemakers Note: This Chenin Blanc is made as a tank fermented, dry style and a little wild ferment in older wine barrels. CRISP DRY FRESH sums up this beautifully balanced wine. Ideal with seafood, spicy Asian dishes or on its own with sunshine and good company. May be cellared to develop more complexity.
Awards and Reviews:
Cape Grace has been a champion of this variety for some time. This gets about 30% wild fermentation in oak, which certainly brings added complexity and interest. Has a crunchy apple and fresh pastry character on the nose with a palate that has depth and layered complexity finished with a fine lingering acidity. Great food wine, this. Cellar 5 years.
92/100 Ray Jordan 2025 WA Wine Review.
Vinification: The grapes were picked in the cool of the early morning to retain the delicate flavour profile. Pressed immediately with free run and pressings juice kept separate. The juice was settled before being inoculated with an aromatic yeast, 30% was barrel fermented.
Vintage 2024 Rating 9/10: After a dryer, than average winter in 2023 the vines started growing 2 weeks earlier than normal in September. This set the stage for an early harvest and coincided with the hottest driest summer on record with 6 months without a drop. The vines were generously irrigated to improve quality thru days over 35c and the fruit was clean as a whistle. Harvest commenced 4 weeks earlier than average. An amazing Marri blossom kept the birds off the vines and netting was hardly needed. The resulting wines are very fruit intense with generous weight and structure.
